The Taliban regime in Afghanistan has defended its recent decision to ban women from universities, stating that the institutions were allowing genders to “mix freely” and subjects were being taught that “violated the principles of Islam”. “Some science subjects are not suitable for women and some other courses do not match the dignity and honour of female students and also Afghan culture,” said a minister.
