The highly transmissible BF.7 strain of the Omicron variant seems to be behind the latest surge in Covid infections globally. Though cases are expected to rise in India over the coming weeks, experts said the situation will likely not be as dire as what is happening in China where according to some studies around 1-2 million people could succumb to the virus in the coming months.
