Kerala accounts for almost 83% of Covid deaths and 38% of new cases in India reported this month till December 23, reflecting the trend of slow decline in positivity and mortality rates in the state against the rest of the country. While the number of Covid patients turning critical and needing hospitalisation has dropped over past few months, the elderly and those with comorbidities remain vulnerable despite vaccination.
